Open and analyze content

Tap the large cat button to add content, check the file, then start analysis. When you open a file in Chat Protège from the iOS Share menu, analysis starts directly with your document visible.

Review and adjust masks

Tap a hidden area to read the original information and decide whether to leave it visible. To cover something missed, choose “Retouch”, select redaction or blur, then draw over the area. You can also crop the photo or PDF page. “Undo” removes the last redaction. Pinch to zoom for greater precision. Review the copy before sending it.

Share the protected copy

Once you have reviewed the document, tap “Share” and choose your destination in the iOS menu. The app prepares the copy without a second confirmation screen. Cancelling returns to your document with your edits intact.

Find your plan

The home screen shows your remaining free items and reset date, or your Premium access. Tap this row to see your monthly or yearly plan and how you received access. If you purchased the subscription, “Manage my subscription” opens Apple’s subscription settings. If a relative shares it with you, the app says so: they manage the subscription, and you don’t need to buy it again.

How are free items counted?

The free plan lets you share 5 items per calendar month. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month, with no rollover of unused items. Analysis and editing remain unlimited, including after the allowance is used up.

For a PDF or photo, one use is counted when its first verified copy is successfully prepared for sharing or saving, before you choose a destination. For text, it is counted the first time you choose “Copy” or “Share” for the protected result. Opening, analyzing and viewing the result do not use your allowance.

Once an item has been counted, you can adjust masks or text, recreate the copy and resend it without another use while it stays open, even with zero items remaining. Cancelling the share menu does not restore a use already counted. Closing the item, starting new text or importing another item ends that session: its next export or text copy counts as a new use, even if you reopen the same file.

What happens after the 5 free items?

You can still open, analyze and edit your content. For an item not yet counted in the current session, the preview has a watermark; sharing, saving and copying text are locked until the allowance resets or Premium is activated. An item already counted and still open keeps its included corrections and resends, without a watermark. Premium allows unlimited sharing; it is not needed to keep analyzing.

Let my family use Premium

The person who purchased Premium can open iPhone Settings → Family → Subscriptions and enable “Share with Family” if the option is available for the subscription. Up to five relatives can benefit, subject to Apple’s conditions. Each person installs Chat Protège using their own Apple Account, then uses “Restore purchases” if access does not appear. You share the subscription, not your documents or remembered information. There is no Chat Protège account, and the app does not monitor your relatives’ posts.

If Apple is waiting for parental permission or another approval, the app shows a pending purchase, not a successful one. Premium becomes active after Apple confirms it. If access is missing, use “Restore purchases”; for family access, also check that your relative has enabled sharing.

Receive text from another app

Use the iOS Share button, then Chat Protège, for plain text or a UTF-8 .txt file. The limit is 1 MB (1,048,576 bytes), not one million characters: accented letters and emojis can take several bytes. Empty, unreadable or oversized text is rejected without using your allowance. Links within the text are not opened automatically.

Manage my remembered information

In the home screen options (“Settings and help”), open “My remembered information”. You can add, edit, disable or delete each item individually. It will be searched for during future analyses on this iPhone. You can also remember text from a masked area after checking what was recognized.

These changes affect neither your originals nor copies already created. Deleting a favourite does not prevent the cat from finding that information through automatic detection. “Erase remembered private data” remains available in the options if you want to forget everything.
